You're Never Too Old

I’m forty-seven. As a young girl I was over-weight. But as a teenager, I lost 60 pounds and am proud to say I still maintain my goal weight. However, there was no amount of exercise or miracle creams that would firm my hips and thighs. There was only one solution: plastic surgery.

The next week I was talking to the doctor; in three weeks, I had joined the ranks of the nipped and tucked. Enduring the self-imposed swelling and bruising, and walking like a duck, there were times I wondered if it was worth it. But in the end—no pun intended—it was. Then something happened I never expected.

Once the swelling subsided I discovered that even though I was rid of the saddlebags that had plagued me, my inner thighs now had loose skin. LOTS of loose skin. Now they jiggled like Jell-O. Combine that with crow’s feet, age spots and grandma arms and you’ve got quite a sight.

But what would I do about the "flapping"? Another surgery? With that thought, something clicked and I grew up. This is ridiculous. Somehow I the connection was made it’s okay to grow old gracefully and like they say, who you are inside is what counts. Really. It’s also when I realized God’s timing to fulfill my life-long calling—writing and recording my own music and writing books. The old hymn, Just as I Am, took on new meaning.

When I shared my destiny, people responded, "At your age?" and made comments that would make Joel Osteen frown. It makes you want to ask them if the word "Yes" is even in their vocabulary. Then I read Proverbs 18:16, "My gifts make room for me and bring me before mighty men." Yes! It doesn’t matter what man says; it matters what God says. Now who’s your daddy?!

So I wrote a song for those who think, or others think, are too old to fulfill their dreams. If you’re being held back because of age, or you’re concerned about your looks, take it from me. STOP. NOW. You need to take another look at yourself thru God’s eyes and see what He sees—that you’re perfect the way you are. When you degrade your abilities or physical body we’re also putting Him down because Christ LIVES in you! I doubt that when we stand before God, He’ll look us over and say, "You should have had more work done." Don’t allow Satan to steal your dreams because of age or how you think you should look due to his worldly influence.

So laugh with me at the humorous side of aging. When it’s over, you’ll be smiling—at yourself and others who tried to tell you otherwise. Go for it! Live and enjoy the life that God has always planned for you! Dare to be who God called you to be—even with wrinkles, gray hair and dimples.

I don’t wear no belly button ring and when I sing I don’t dance all over the stage.

But brother you can bet that I can sweat to the oldies at my age.

When Abram was a hundred he and Sarah gave birth,

Now his descendents are sands of the earth.

You’re never too old for you to do what God has called you to do.

Well I’ve got gray hairs, wrinkles, and grandma arms, but they just add to my charm.

I’ve got crow’s feet, age spots, Cover Girl’s a long shot,

But I don’t think they mean me any harm.

I’ve tried Botox, Restaylene, Collagen, Maybelline in one of my many phases.

I finally figured out, the way to true youth is thru the Rock of Ages!

It’s never too late. It’s never too late.

It’s never too late to give into fate, so do what He called you to do.

It doesn’t matter if you’re sweet sixteen or going on a hundred and two,

It’s never too late for you to do what God has called you to.
